Do I Stay or Do I Go? #DemExit

That song from the Clash continues to play in my head. I’m still conflicted as to what to do.

If I go there will be trouble, if I stay there will be double

Do I stay?

These two are staying: Ohio State Senator Nina Turner is a tireless Bernie surrogate. Despite her mistreatment by the DNC, she’s staying. Nina says she won’t give the Democratic party the satisfaction of leaving. #ImWithNina, she’s a rock star.

Delegate Portia Boulger’s angry rant went viral. Her points about Hillary being as dangerous as Trump really resonated with me and with millions of others. This life long Democrat warns us that democracy is at stake. She’s staying. She says we have to clean house. She is a gutsy gal, a new hero of mine.

Or is it time to go?

Go Green, I mean! I voted for Jill Stein in the 2012 election because I became strongly disappointed in the Obama administration in 2010 when I had my fracking wake up call while spending a summer in Bradford County, PA. Obama’s energy policies have been extremely harmful, and of course his military policies and pro-corporate #TPP friendly positions are completely unacceptable to me. Jill’s platform is very much like Bernie’s and after all, didn’t Mrs C say to “vote your conscience”? I’m #JillNotHill, for now.

Either way, to stay within a party that no longer holds your values, or to strike out for greener pastures, will require determination and persistence. I don’t have to vote today, the election is still 100 days away. I’ve come to understand that its not about that day. Its about working towards what you want to see in the world, and not being afraid to fight for it anyway.

Do I Stay or Do I Go? #ChappExit

My hometown of 28 years, Chappaqua NY, has values that no longer seem to be in alignment with my own. Mr & Mrs C moved in to my town back in 1999 in preparation for her NY Senate run. Sadly, with each passing year, the local celebrity worship of this power couple increases. I no longer attend things like the Memorial day parade which has become a major media event. Many of the Hillary enthusiasts are quite rabid in their worship of their candidate, often acting like bullies towards those who do not share their views. Most of the Berners in my town are now underground. They avoid delis, cafes and pizza places with the Hillary folks congregate. I’m one of the few that is “out” about my Bernie-ness. My new motto is #StayRidiculous

There are a handful of wonderful people nearby. My tribe. Friends who are like minded, grounded and able to discuss real issues. But many of them no longer live here in my town. One by one, they have already started the #ChappExit

I love my house, my yard, my community garden. But I no longer love my school system or my local government. It is going to be challening in the next 100 days living here during this election season. Do I stay or do I leave and seek greener pastures? The question lingers….
